It is not known how and when the first cap was made. What is known is that headgear was worn during Roman times. Many people wore caps to protect their heads from the cold. Caps originally had the purpose of keeping the head warm during cold days.
Nowadays, hats are worn all year round and their functionality (keeping someone's head warm) has faded into the background. This is not the case at Poederbaas. From day one, we started crocheting colorful winter sports hats that stand out as soon as they are worn.
We have now developed various beanies that can be worn in different ways and at different times. There are 4 different types of hats that have been developed, all with their own fit.
The Arctic beanies are made of 70% polyester, 27% polyamide and 3% elastane and it is our softest hat. The turn-up band of the hat can be worn high or low and because it is made of polyester it feels super soft on your head. That is also the reason why we have developed this hat for children aged 3 and up.
With this hat we focus on the feminine lady who goes for quality. Which does not mean that men can't wear this hat too!
The Royal Rib beanies are made of acrylic and are our most rugged beanie. We have had this beanie in our collection for a few years now and appreciate the beanie especially for its perfect round fit. The structure of the beanie feels a bit rougher and even after intensive wearing and storage this beanie retains its natural shape. This beanie is often bought by male riders.
The Park Series beanies are a bit longer and therefore worn a bit looser. This hat is very elastic and is made of elastane. The ideal beanie to wear on and off the fun park.
Our colorful hand-crocheted hats are the reason Poederbaas exists. These hats have been crocheted for a long time by the owner and then by a number of (older) ladies where a fleece band was then attached by hand to the inside. This crocheted hat is a striking appearance of which a 2.0 version has now also been made.
This time a knitted hat with a turn-up that can be worn high or low. All these hats are crocheted from acrylic wool.
The freeride beanie is made for those who love off-piste skiing or snowboarding. The adventurer who loves a challenge but who sensibly puts on a helmet for the descent and puts his favorite beanie away in his jacket pocket. We are fans, now you are.
We couldn't leave out Kids beanies this winter either. We chose to develop the wonderfully soft Arctic beanies for children as well. A cool hat for the little Poederbaasjes among us!
