Partly due to the addition of the BK Freeride to the existing Poederbaas Freeride Festival, the tickets for the freeride competitions are sold out. Never before has there been so much interest in the NK & BK Freeride. Good news of course because that means that there is a lot of new talent present will be in Kappl!
The freeride competitions
Freeride skiing and snowboarding in competition is a sport in which the athlete makes a descent in off-piste terrain and this is judged by a 4-person jury panel. This jury judges the athlete on the areas of line choice, fluidity, technique and tricks such as jumps in the terrain. The time per descent is not measured but logically you get more points if you come down at a fast pace.
Waiting list
Partly because we have more than 100 registrations for the freeride competitions this year, we have chosen to add every new registration to the waiting list. This means that if someone cancels for the freeride competition, the next person on the waiting list can participate. Every year people cancel (last minute) and that ensures that there is a good chance that you can still participate. Apart from that, we as an organization will do our utmost to let as many people as possible participate in the freeride competitions. Provided that this is safe and responsible. We only have a certain number of hours per day in which everyone must be able to make a descent and that must be assessed by the jury.
How do you know whether you can participate or not?
Everyone who has bought a 'waiting list' ticket via our website knows that they are registered on the reserve list. As soon as a spot becomes available, we will contact the next person on this list with the news that they can participate. We therefore advise everyone to come to the Freeride Festival, even if you are registered for the waiting list. As described earlier, it is likely that people will cancel during the week itself or even the day before. If you are not present and do not participate in the freeride competitions, the registration fee will logically be refunded.
