How does it work?
To make coffee, 0.2 percent of the bean is used. The rest, 99.8 percent, becomes coffee grounds and is thrown away. A great shame because this can be converted into a high-quality textile thread called ''Coffee Yarn''. The process starts with collecting coffee grounds, which are then dried and processed into nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are mixed with polymers and finally spun into yarn.
The final result, the coffee thread, can be used to produce outdoor clothing. Fun fact: The coffee grounds used for the thread come from the world's largest coffee sellers such as Starbucks. Because so much coffee is consumed, there is actually always coffee grounds available! In this way, companies give a second life to the coffee grounds that would otherwise end up in the trash.
