Kappl, March 2024 - The fourth edition of the NK Vertical Skimo was on the program today! The concept: 3.5km touring on skis or a splitboard and bridging no less than 600 meters of altitude. This year there were no less than 50 participants!
The day started off bright blue and wonderfully sunny so all participants were enthusiastic. Last night there was a fresh layer of snow and this provided ideal conditions. The shorts were pulled out of the closet to avoid overheating. The slopes were a bit harder today than yesterday and this was ideal for the Vertical Skimo. It was a very exciting competition.
In the category 'Ski Man' it was an impressive battle. Allard Sym Spenger was the first to cross the finish line with a time of no less than 35 minutes and 9 seconds. Last year he was second but he now took first place.
He was followed by Michel Aubroeck with a time of no less than 42 minutes and 39 seconds. Third place went to Thomas Stessens, he reached the top in 44 minutes and 56 seconds.
In the category 'Ski woman' there was also a great performance. First place went to Bente Theeuwes with a time of no less than 44 minutes and 51 seconds. She was followed by Sanne de Jong, who finished in no less than 48 minutes and 01 seconds. Third place went to Susan Beks with a time of 55 minutes and 41 seconds. She was also on the podium last year.
In the category 'Splitboard Man' we have new winners this year. The first place was won by Richard Bakker with a time of 41 minutes and 36 seconds. He was closely followed by Gert Goelen who took second place in no less than 42 minutes and 12 seconds. The third place went to Ben Sonneveld. He also stomped through and reached the finish in 44 minutes and 25 seconds.
The category 'Splitboard Woman' was also very special! There was a shared first place! This was won by Beth Berckvens and Lisa van Haaster. They reached the finish at the same time in a time of 59 minutes and 31 seconds. The third place went to Kris van der Wijst in a time of 1 hour and 04 seconds.
The participants have again achieved an excellent performance this year. A great start to the Poederbaas NK/BK Festival. It was an extremely exciting and successful edition of the NK Vertical Skimo. We are very curious about the performances of the participants of the NK Freeride this week.
